The Cumbria Junior County Closed competition was held on 29th September at Carlisle Squash Club.  There were three competitions - U19 boys, a mixed under 17s and a mixed U13s.

In the U13s there were 7 entries.  Nathan Sellers (Carlisle) and Adam Ibrahim (Kendal) reached the finals, with Nathan's strong game giving him a decisive 3-0 win (11-2, 11-2, 11-6).  In the plate, an all-Windscale battle between Danny Harrison and Elijah Lee went to 5 sets, with Danny eventually getting the win by 11-5 in the fifth.

The Under 17s was a round robin involving 5 players, with Josh Tang of Workington/Whitehaven playing off in the final against Wigton's Zak Leathers.  Josh won the first two games, but then Zak rallied to take an exhausting 3rd game 11-9.  That took its toll on him, and Josh was able to win the fourth comfortably to secure the match 3-1.

Hot favourite Adam Goad played Joseph Broadley in the all-Carlisle U19 final.  The standard of play was superb, and the 3-0 scoreline doesn't tell the story of a closely fought match, with Adam winning 12-10 in the third to get the victory.

The Matthew Allison award is given each year to the young player who has shown his or her commitment to fair play during the Junior Championships.  This year Carlisle's Neve Runcie won it - for her good humour and enthusiasm for the game.
