Marking & Refereeing workshops
on Sunday 25 April 2010 at Penrith Rugby Club
You will have seen from the minutes of the last
Executive Committee meeting that we are holding two Marking & Refereeing
workshops on Sunday 25 April 2010 at Penrith Rugby Club. We intended
to advertise them with posters, application forms etc in a timely
way but for various reasons that has not been done and this is your
notification - you have 12 days to respond - sorry for the short
notice.
The tutor is Joss Garvey - ESR Staff Instructor
for M&R
The main workshop is the REFEREE WORKSHOP which
starts at 1pm and finishes about 3-30pm. This gives the full M&R
requirement and we recommend that County League players, County
Team players and Junior Squad players, particularly the older juniors
,attend - but, it is open to all who are interested. It is the first
step to getting a formal M&R qualification so anyone interested
in doing that must attend. The syllabus is attached
For our younger juniors who do not wish to attend
the comprehensive Referee Workshop but still wish to receive a formal
but less rigorous introduction to M&R, Joss is holding a JUNIOR
ACADEMY WORKSHOP in the morning starting at 11am and finishing about
12-45pm. The syllabus is attached.
There will be a nominal charge of £3 for delegates
under 19 & £5 for older delegates I will be receiving applications
and fees. Please send to Tom Armstrong, Deneldene, 34A Rye Hill
Road, Flimby, Maryport, Cumbria, CA15 8PS. If you have any queries
call me at 01900 812576. Please make cheques payable to Cumbria
Squash
Closing Date for applications - Thursday 22 April
2010. This will give me sufficient time to advise Joss of final
requirements or cancellation if we don`t get sufficient support
Please enclose the following information with your
application Name:-------------------------------------------Club----------------------------------------------
Address:----------------Telephone:----------------------------Date
of Birth if Under 19:----------------Workshop: Referee or Junior
Academy? Do you wish to work towards a formal M&R qualification?
------------------
This is `rough & ready` but should do the job if
you work with us by making sure, as quickly as possible, that all
clubs have copies and your club colleagues who may not be on e-mail
are made aware of it . As you are aware, we do not have a formal
M&R establishment and rely on players/spectators to step in and
do the job at all of our events - most of those involved have had
no formal training at all. Attending these workshops can only help
to improve the quality of M&R across the County. There is also a
spin off effect in making players in matches more aware of what
is expected of them so minimising player/marker conflict. For many
years we have tried to develop a formal team of qualified M&Rs to
support our competitions but on many occasions, for various reasons,
just as we seem to have made progress we go back to square one.
I don`t want to give up on this and see these workshops as a great
opportunity to try again, so I hope that a few of you `grasp the
nettle` and go for a formal qualification. Joss will advise those
who wish to do that what is required of them after the workshop.
NOTE: Chris Lilley of Penrith Club is managing the club aspect of
the initiative so he is another person to contact if you need any
further information of the organisation for the day - Tel: 01768

I look forward to getting a lot of applicants Thank
you in anticipation of your support Regards Tom Armstrong Chairman
& Secretary Cumbria Squash
