Forty of the counties youngest squash players headed to Wigton to play in the annual Graded Competition on 26th and 27th January 2013.

Competitors from Wigton, Carlisle, Sands, Whitehaven, Windscale and Workington played out some very competitive games over the course of the weekend.

Many players were playing in their first tournament, with this competition the ideal opportunity to do so with the emphasis on fun and learning the game rather than rigorous competition.

However, some of the counties best young talent was on show in the top grades, county players Adam Gill, of Wigton and Adam Goad, nationally ranked 6 at U11’s from Carlisle competed in a great final in the U13 Boys ‘A’ category.

Also, Whitehaven’s Matthew Harrison, nationally ranked 26 at U11’s won the U11 Boys ‘A’ category, beating Windscale’s Zachary Singleton, ranked 74 in the final.

Workington had a winner with Michelle Tang winning the U13 Girls ‘A’ Final. Windscale also celebrated Kaitlyn Carruthers winning the U11 Girls ‘A’ competition.

The tournament was deemed a great success by the organising club with particular praise for the county’s newest and youngest competitors.
