The COVID outbreak disrupted the conclusion of the 2019/20 squash season. The County Committee waited several months to see if it were possible to resume squash and play the final league games, and the cup finals, but this hasn’t proved possible. So, based on the last league positions of the teams, and the games still in hand and to be played, two league winners were announced – Wigton A in league one, and Appleby A for league two. Tom Armstrong, chair of Cumbria Squash and Racketball, offered congratulations to both sides, and hoped that the coming season would see a return to more squash being played.
The cup finals, which were due to be held at Windscale in March, have now been formally abandoned.
Player of the Year is awarded to Joseph Broadley of Carlisle, who had a superb season, and has continued to show strong improvement. He won 12 out 13 games in League 1, all at position 1, with eight of them 3-0.
