Death of David Henderson

It is with great sadness that we report the death of David Henderson, who passed away from prostate cancer on Saturday 5th December. David had been an active contributor to squash in Cumbria for many years, serving for nearly 20 years on the County Committee and acting as junior organiser for just under 10 of these, until his illness forced him to step down.

Tom Armstrong, chair of Cumbria Squash and Racketball, stated “David was a major contributor on the Executive and Junior Committees to our organisations effective operation. He was chosen for our major award (The Hazel Award) at his retirement in recognition of his excellent and dedicated work over that extended period. David was a gentleman, a lovely man who it was my pleasure to work with – I dont need to say more because the following a statement by one of my current colleagues on the Exec is an example that everyone else feels the same – it says it all – he says “…one of the most honest and nicest people I have ever had the pleasure to know”

On behalf of our organisation I offer our condolences to his wife Ann, family, squash colleagues and all others who knew him. He will be sadly missed.”

David’s funeral will be held on 16th December at 9.30. COVID restrictions dictate that numbers who can attend in person are very limited, and the family have asked that this be family members and close friends. But the service is also being streamed online. The website is https://www.obitus.com/, the username Noye4798 and the password 995786. Donations are also welcome to a cause close to Dave’s heart Prostate Cancer UK, at https://david-henderson1.muchloved.com/

David, knowing that people would not be able to come together for his funeral, also asked if his friends and family could provide a short written memory and/or a photograph? If people email these to the family will collate them and then share them back out.
