Hannah wins national university title

Hannah Crichton, representing Northumbria University, has won the British Universities & Colleges Sport Championships.

She beat the number 1 seed on her way to the final, and completed a tournament victory, at her first attempt, with a 3-1 win over Siobhan Knight of Nottingham University. The tournament was played over 5 rounds.

Hannah won her first match 3-0 (against Emily Crowcroft of Nottingham Uni). She progressed to the quarter finals with another 3-0 win against Exeter’s Rachael Crowe. In the quarter finals she faced number 1 seed Natalie Dodd (Southampton Uni), who had also not dropped a set in the tournament. Hannah again won 3-0 (11/7, 11/8, 11/8) In the semi final she lost the first set to Birmingham’s Charlotte Lossen, but went on to triumph 3-1 (8/11, 11/7, 11/5, 11/5) and gain a place in the final. In the final she again lost the first set, but steadied to come back and eventually win 3-1, to become a BUCS Individual Champion at the first attempt, and Northumbria’s only Gold medallist over the entire weekend from the 8 men’s and 3 women’s events.
