Tribute to Carlisle squash founder Alastair McFee

Hi everyone,

Unfortunately I have some sad news for you.

I am very sorry to report the death of Alastair McFee, aged 84, a trustee of Carlisle Squash Club, who died peacefully at Lanercost House on 9 January 2018 after a long illness.

Alastair was a member of the original group of three businessmen that formed the club at Barn Close, Stanwix in 1950, moved it to the Carlisle Rugby Union Ground in 1972 and since then developed it to the great club it is today. The other trustees were Keith Popham, who died in 2013, and Stewart McQuillin who died 2014. Our organisation has a lot to thank these three gentlemen for.

I first met Alistair at Barn Close court and considered him a good friend – he was a happy, friendly, outgoing person and a true gentleman who will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

I give my condolences on behalf of our organisation to his family, friends and squash colleagues.
