James Worsick wins the first racketball county closed

With 16 entries, the competition was graded according to rankings, into two groups of 8 players. All games were competed to very good standards and with great sportsmanship; everyone enjoyed themselves.

The pinnacle of the competition was the A Group final; no. 1 seed James Worsick of Carlisle came up against Wigton’s Luke Christian. Whilst James won 3-0, Luke never gave up and the speed and court coverage of both players were breath-taking, showing what a high level this racket sport can be played at.

One other player worthy of note, was our only woman entrant, Rachael Kennon from Wigton, who throughout the competition played with great skill and court craft to win the B Group final.

As this was the first ever time this competition was held, it was decided to purchase a brand-new trophy, and to honour the County’s Chairman with naming it after him: The Tom Armstrong Cup – Cumbria Racketball Champion.
